ABOUT THE AUTHOR

BERNARD COOKSON  1937-2016   

 

Bernard Cookson spent most of his career as a Fleet Street cartoonist, using the signature 'COOKSON'.  

 

He worked for a variety of publications, including Punch, The London Evening News, The Express Newspaper Group, The Sporting Life, The Sun, and The Mail on Sunday.  

 

In the 70s, he collaborated with his friend and fellow-cartoonist, 'MAC', to write comedy scripts for The Two Ronnies, Dave Allen and Tommy Cooper.  Later, as a freelance cartoonist, he became a regular contributor to The Spectator and The Oldie. 

 

He illustrated over 20 books, including his own: Wine Lovers and 'Til Divorce Us Do Part. The Fifth Day was his first novel.

 

Cookson was married, and lived in Henley-on-Thames.
